In this video, Manchester University Press Senior Commissioning Editors, Tom Dark and Meredith Carroll, provide advice on how to approach the task of framing a book project.
Tom and Meredith discuss: ways to differentiate a book from a thesis; how to choose the right publisher; and provide guidance on the expected parameters for length and illustration. This should give you a sense of what publishers expect to see, what pitfalls to avoid and hopefully some idea of where you could begin to develop your own work towards monograph publication. The advice is relevant for any project, although particular guidance will be given for books based on research undertaken from a PhD thesis.
Tom Dark is Senior Commissioning Editor in Society, Economy, History of Science and Social Sciences trade books.
Meredith Carroll is Journals Manager and Senior Commissioning Editor in Archaeology, Medieval Studies and Early Modern History.
