The 2022 Northern Ireland Assembly election, taking place on Thursday 5th May is expected to see 90 members elected to the Northern Ireland Assembly. This will be the seventh assembly election since it was estalished in April 1998 as a result of the Belfast Agreement, the outcome of a long process of talks between the Northern Ireland political parties and the British and Irish Governments.
It comes at a turbulent time in Northern Irish politics, with the resignation of First Minister, Paul Givan, in February, in protest over the Northern Ireland Protocol (Brexit). Sinn Féin are currently favourites in the polls.
