History is full of heroes and MUP have a history of publishing books about them.
Chinese Dreams in Romantic Dreams, explore the polymath hero Thomas Manning. As part of the ‘first wave’ of British Romanticism, he was one of the first Englishmen to study Chinese language and culture. Like famous friends including Samuel Taylor Coleridge and Charles Lamb, Manning was inspired by the French Revolution and had ambitious plans for making a better world.
Manning was largely forgotten until new archival sources uncovered the lost Romantic life of the polymath hero told for the first time in this book.
We’ve created a reading list of books exploring inspiring figures who’s unique thinking has made a lasting global and historic impact.
