Manchester University Press (MUP) are delighted to announce their new collaboration with the Publishing MA at Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU), to offer one of their students the opportunity to design the cover for a forthcoming MUP title.
The brief, put together by MUP, will be shared with students on the MA Publishing course at MMU, who will respond to the brief with their design, which will then be reviewed by a panel of judges, and a winner chosen from amongst the entrants.
The book which the students will be designing the cover for is Volunteering in the United Kingdom: The spirit of service by John Mohan. John Mohan is one of the world’s leading scholars of the voluntary sector, and this book is a comprehensive, state-of-the-art overview of the voluntary sector and volunteering in the UK today. It is designed to work as a textbook or course book for a range of courses, but also will be indispensable to voluntary organisations and professional training courses. The book is scheduled to be published in paperback by MUP in September 2024.
MUP’s Sales and Marketing Director Chris Hart: “We are really pleased to be partnering with MMU on this exciting initiative. I am full of admiration for their MA Publishing Course and the talent it develops every year. I am excited to see what designs the students come up with, as well as offer them an opportunity to gain valuable work experience. It’s important for MUP to establish these collaborations as a way of opening up pathways into publishing and, hopefully, keeping talent in the Manchester.”
MA Publishing Course Leader Debbie Williams: “This is such a brilliant opportunity for our MA Publishing students. Our course is highly vocational and we try offer as much real-world experience as possible, and it does not get more real than this. We are incredibly grateful to our partners at Manchester University Press and excited to see what creative ideas our students produce.”
