I have been part of the Editorial team at MUP since 2012, and in addition to my commissioning role, I co-ordinate many of the activities of the Editorial department, as well as providing support across the Literature, Theatre and Modern History lists. I commission books on Literature published roughly from 1945 right up to the present day. The twentieth- and twenty-first-century Literature list at MUP is well established, and includes some long-running series such as Contemporary British Novelists, Contemporary World Writers, and Contemporary American and Canadian Writers. Newer series include Multicultural Textualities, which focuses on interdisciplinary cultural texts produced by and about diasporic and minority communities, addressing the experiences, issues and anxieties arising from the perceived clash of ideas and values. I welcome proposals on monographs and edited collections that would fit any of these series, as well as standalone volumes, and proposals for new series that provide fresh perspectives on the evolution of Literature and Culture since 1945. I’m particularly interested in further expanding the scope of the existing list, in order to reflect the diversity of contemporary writers and contemporary writing in its various forms. I’m looking for proposals on established, emerging and critically overlooked authors that situate the writer and their works in their social, political, artistic and historical contexts, as well as thematic volumes on subjects including post- and de-colonialism, multiculturalism, gender and ecocriticism. If you’re interested in publishing your book with MUP, please get in touch to discuss your idea.
